Untitled or indiscipline, Untitled or freedom of non-defining. It could not have had a better title the Seba Lallemand's first Milan solo show, which Marsèlleria permanent exhibition and HEADS Collective present in the space of via Paullo 12/a on Wednesday, July 21st.
Jean-Sébastien Lallemand, alias Seba, (1973) was born in France and has lived in Gabon and Costa d'Avorio until the age of 12. Back in Europe, he studied and graduated at Orleans' Art School. At present, he is working in Italy, Paris, Hong Kong and Beijing.
An artist with eclectic personality, he works with different mediums and materials such as video, graphic art, installation, performance and photography.
After being invited by Marco Müller at the 57th Venice International Film Festival, he was director of photography for director Wang Bing and director of Ai Weiwei's Fairytale project presented at Documenta 12 in Kassel.
HEADS Collective has just dedicated to him H9/ OHM, the ninth issue of HEADS Collective Showcase, a periodical publication intended for projects and artists that arouse the group's admiration.
It is from the Untitled homonymous drawing series collected in H9/ OHM that the labyrinthine show, mounted at Marsèlleria permanent exhibition, originates.
Lallemand is himself Untitled by his own nature, impossible to restrain within a style; the quick, incisive strokes of his drawings, that had him compared to Dürer and Egon Schiele, make room for the clearness and high definition of his videos and photos. The aesthetic detachment of some images vanishes in the installations and performances, which are immediate, direct.
